Choosing a wedding venue is one of the most exciting parts of planning a destination wedding, but it can also feel overwhelming.
Barcelona and Costa Brava offer an incredible mix of venues: Mediterranean villas, seaside spaces, historic houses, boutique hotels, private estates and hidden corners where a wedding can feel elegant, relaxed and deeply personal.
The challenge is not finding a beautiful venue. The real challenge is finding the right one for the kind of celebration you want to create.
That is why I created this guide: a personal selection of 14 wedding venues I would genuinely recommend to my best friend if she were getting married in Barcelona or Costa Brava.
Not necessarily the most obvious list. Not always the most famous venues. But places with something special: a beautiful setting, a strong sense of place, a good guest experience and the potential to create a wedding that feels intimate, stylish and very Mediterranean.
Why Barcelona and Costa Brava Are Perfect for a Destination Wedding
For international couples, this part of Spain offers a wonderful balance between beauty and practicality.
Barcelona is well connected, easy for guests to reach, full of culture, hotels, restaurants and pre-wedding plans. Costa Brava brings a more relaxed coastal atmosphere: sea views, charming villages, long lunches, hidden coves and that slower Mediterranean rhythm that makes a wedding feel like a full experience, not just one day.
Many couples choose to combine both: a welcome dinner in Barcelona, a wedding day by the sea or in the countryside, and a farewell brunch before everyone travels home.
It becomes a wedding weekend rather than just a wedding.
What I Look For in a Wedding Venue
A beautiful venue is important, of course. But when I recommend a space, I always look beyond the first impression.
I think about how the day will flow. Where guests will arrive. Where the ceremony will take place. How the cocktail will feel. Whether dinner can be outside. What happens if the weather changes. How easy it is for suppliers to work there. And, above all, whether the space feels authentic.
A good venue should make the wedding easier, not more complicated.
It should also match the couple. Some venues are perfect for a relaxed celebration by the sea. Others are made for an elegant dinner under the stars. Some work beautifully for intimate weddings, while others need more guests and more production to feel alive.
There is no perfect venue for everyone. There is only the right venue for you.
A Personal Selection
This guide is not a huge directory of every venue in the area. It is a curated selection of places I would personally consider for a couple looking for something beautiful, warm and memorable.
Some are ideal for international guests. Some are perfect for a full weekend. Some are better if you want the sea nearby. Others are more private, surrounded by nature, and perfect for couples who want to disconnect from the city.
The idea is to help you start imagining what kind of wedding feels right for you.
Do you see yourselves in a Mediterranean villa? In a historic estate? In a boutique hotel? Near the sea? In the countryside? With all your guests staying together? Or with Barcelona as the base and the wedding somewhere nearby?
Once you understand the feeling you want, choosing the venue becomes much clearer.
At We Travel Boutique, we help couples find the right venue, connect with trusted local suppliers and design a wedding experience that feels personal, beautiful and effortless for their guests.
